Our organization is built on the spirit of bayanihan (by-yah-nee-hahn), which means "coming together as a community to achieve a common goal."
In consideration of the dozens of Filipino organizations operating around the city, we harmonize social efforts to help carry our home of Montreal towards a brighter future.
As a Bayanihan-driven organization, we unite with partner organizations to create cultural events and activities that highlight our Filipino heritage, including traditional dances, music, and cuisine. We also provide educational programs and opportunities for members of our community to learn more about our history and culture.
We believe that by working together, we can better promote and educate the broader community about the Filipino community in Montreal, our customs, and our traditions.
Whether you are a Filipino living in Montreal, or simply interested in learning more about our vibrant culture, we invite you to join us in our mission to promote and preserve the Filipino heritage.
In collaboration with Concordia University's Centre of Oral History and Digital Storytelling (COHDS), FHSM works to preserve our unique stories.
Through this Federal Grants and Contributions program, we have been able to offer courses in digitalization including tablet courses and computer literacy.
We work with fellow Montreal non-profits in building partnerships to prevent crime and violence in different contexts such as schools and public spaces.
FHSM launched Heritage Hour, a series of online conversations with scholars and persons of interest who discuss and share Filipino culture.
FHSM organized virtual classes and social events throughout COVID lockdowns to support our community's social bonds and mental health.
Our organization is made up of volunteers who are passionate about serving the community.
